Today we’re talking about one of Bollywood’s most untold and shocking love stories… A story that had true love, wedding cards, spying… and a heartbreaking betrayal. This is the story of Salman Khan and Sangeeta Bijlani. Sangeeta Bijlani was born on July 9, 1960, in Mumbai. Born into a Sindhi family, she wanted to be part of the glamour world from a young age. She started modeling at just 15. Her beauty and confidence were so striking that people lovingly called her “Bijli” (lightning). By the age of 16, she was getting major brand endorsements. Then came 1980 — when she won the Miss India crown. After that, the doors of Bollywood opened for her. In 1987, she made her Bollywood debut with the film Qatil. She later appeared in films like Tridev, Hathyar, Jurm, Yodha, and Lakshman Rekha. She even received a Filmfare nomination for Jurm. By then, Sangeeta had become one of the most glamorous and talked-about actresses of her time. Around the same time, a young boy was studying in Mumbai… who would later become one of Bollywood’s biggest superstars — Salman Khan. Back then, Salman hadn’t entered films yet. He was a student at St. Xavier’s College and fell in love for the first time at the age of 19. His first love was model Shaheen Jaffrey, granddaughter of legendary actor Ashok Kumar. It is said Salman would wait outside her college for hours. His devotion impressed Shaheen too. Their relationship was quite serious, and Salman’s family was also happy with it. But then entered Sangeeta Bijlani into this love story. Salman, Shaheen, and Sangeeta used to visit the same health club in Mumbai. That’s where Salman and Sangeeta became friends. At that time, Sangeeta had just broken up with actor Binju Ali and was going through an emotional phase. Slowly, Salman and Sangeeta grew close. Friendship turned into love… and because of this, Salman and Shaheen’s relationship ended. Shaheen chose to distance herself and joined Cathay Pacific Airways, moving abroad. Now Salman and Sangeeta were deeply serious about each other. In 1989, Salman became an overnight star with Maine Pyar Kiya. Fame, money, and stardom followed… and during this time, Salman and Sangeeta decided to get married. Both families met, approved the relationship, and even fixed the wedding date — May 27, 1994. Not just that, the wedding cards were already printed. Everything seemed perfect. But just a month before the wedding, everything changed. Sangeeta started noticing changes in Salman’s behavior. Something felt off… and that’s when the spying began — the moment that changed everything. Sangeeta began keeping an eye on Salman… and the truth she discovered shattered her completely. She found out that despite their wedding being fixed, Salman was dating someone else — Somy Ali. This truth broke Sangeeta. She immediately called off the wedding. A relationship whose wedding cards were already printed… ended before it could reach the altar. Later, Salman himself admitted this in an interview. He said he was very close to getting married and was caught red-handed. This became the biggest “missed wedding” moment of Salman’s life. Interestingly, even though Salman and Sangeeta never got married, their friendship still remains. They are often seen together at family functions, Eid parties, and birthday celebrations. In fact, their hugs and Salman kissing her forehead on his birthday have gone viral many times. After Sangeeta, many names were linked with Salman — Somy Ali, Aishwarya Rai, Katrina Kaif, and Iulia Vantur… but Salman is still unmarried today. Maybe that’s why people say — The closest Salman ever came to marriage… was the one that never happened. And that’s what makes this incomplete love story one of Bollywood’s most fascinating and heartbreaking tales.
