In this episode we go to Coccullo a village in Abruzzo where every year on May 1st there is the festival in honor of San Domenico Abate with the ancient medieval rite of the serpari, The festival is linked, according to tradition, to the ancient pagan rites celebrated by the Marsi who inhabited the area. In the tenth century with the arrival of the saint Domenico di Sora in Cocullo and Villalago, the rite was changed, the saint offered protection to citizens by donating the relics of the mule iron with which he rode and its molar tooth, against the protection of beast bites and diseases. A few weeks before May 1, the snakes go to the woods around the village to capture the snakes, which they then release into the wild at the end of the ceremony.
