Baptized and spent his childhood and youth in Schlackenwerth, northwest Bohemia. He attended the grammar school run by Piarist friars, an order founded in Rome in 1617 to promote the education of the poor. Here he received his first lessons in composition, and learned to play the keyboard and violin. The monastery archive contains an early work by him. Between 1686 and 1689, he was appointed Kapellmeister to the Saxon-Lauenburg court in Schlackenwerth, and may have remained with the court until his death. Fischer's music shows the influence of the French Baroque, and he was responsible for introducing the French influence to German music. A composer whose influence is evident throughout Fischer's works is Jean Baptiste Lully (1632-1687), one of the leading and most respected musical figures of that era. Fischer was ranked as one of the best composers for keyboard of his day. Bach and Handel knew Fischer's work and borrowed from it. www.bach-cantatas.com/Lib/Fischer-Johann-Caspar-Ferdinand.htm Score video provided by TheOneAndOnlyZeno
