Buying a 19 year old piece of heavy equipment brings it's own unique challenges. One of these challenges is that you do not know what the previous owner has broken and how well he made the repairs. In this episode, we have to make our first major repair to the backhoe. It looks like both sides of the movable jaw of the clamshell bucket have broken and been repaired at some time in the past. Though this is a lot of work to make this repair, I believe this part of the bucket is engineered to fail before worse damage can be done to the jaw of the bucket.
