The local AWOS (weather) was reporting 4 miles visibility, but conditions seemed lower! Don't trust that the automated weather system will keep you safe! This was a good chance to get up with the student and let him experience 3 miles viz. I strongly encourage all my students to get their IFR rating as soon as practical and to limit the conditions they fly in until they do. It is a good idea to get out with a competent instructor to see what shouldn't do as a new private pilot.
