(note: The information in this video is now out of date, some people have moved on, some events are no longer running and overall there have been many changes to The Mill Museum in the eight years since this video was made, please now consider the video and the text below a snapshot of times past.) The Windham Textile & History Museum is located in the historic former headquarters of the American Thread Company in downtown Willimantic, Connecticut. The Mill Museum is a non-profit educational institution housing a museum, a library, and an archive. Through our exhibits, programs, and collections, the museum preserves and interprets the history of the textiles arts and the textile industry with special emphasis on the experiences of the craftspeople, industrial workers, manufacturers, inventors, designers, and consumers that lived during those bygone times. Every year we host a variety of educational events, fundraisers, exhibits and speakers. The focus is on local history, textiles and the mills but we often include and cover broader topics of interest to the local community, history lovers and volunteers/members of The Mill Museum. Our Educational Lyceum's cover a broad array of topics. In the past we have had speakers talk about the refugee crisis in the middle east, the poor house system as practiced in CT, featured bands playing live historical music and had local authors do live readings plus so much more. In addition The Mill Museum host various walking tours and field trips throughout the year in a variety of interesting cultural and historical locations. These trips are always led by experienced and respected local guides or historians such as Mill Museum staff members Beverly York (Educational Director) and Dr. Jamie Eves (Executive Director). We are open February through December 10am-4pm Friday, Saturday & Sunday. We are Located at 411 Main Street; Willimantic, CT 06226.
