The Future of Indigenous Education | Mair Greenfield | TEDxRosedale Youth

Mair shares a deeply personal journey, moving from post-secondary education to nonprofit technology, to Indigenous foodways, and eventually back to nonprofit work with a focus on reconciliation. Throughout her story, she explains that although education is often framed through a Western structure, true learning is much broader and includes understanding food as medicine, developing essential life skills, and carrying community values. Her message shows that education is not limited to classrooms or curricula, but is rooted in culture, identity, and reconciliation, offering a vision of learning that strengthens both individuals and communities. Mair Greenfield is an Indigenous education leader and member of Kebaowek First Nation whose career spans post-secondary education, nonprofit technology, and Indigenous foodways. She currently serves as Director at the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund and has held leadership roles at Canadore College’s First Peoples’ Centre, Nourish Leadership, and the Rumie Initiative. With a background in criminal justice from Canadore College and Nipissing University, Mair is dedicated to advancing reconciliation, community-driven learning, and the integration of traditional knowledge—such as viewing food as medicine—into holistic education.
