The dart led me to Easter Island… but I never expected to find one of the world’s most inspiring schools — Toki (aka Earthship Music School), a music school built entirely from garbage. Yes, beer cans, tires, bottles, and cardboard — waste collected over 6 years — were turned into a sustainable masterpiece. This isn’t just a building. It’s a symbol of hope, creativity, and cultural preservation in one of the most remote places on Earth. In this episode of Travel by Dart, we walk through the school that redefines how we see education, recycling, and community. This video is the fifth of six incredible episodes that Sorin and Matt shot on Isla de Pascua. These episodes feature the history of the famous Easter Island heads (named Moai statues), scuba diving to the bottom of the ocean, dancing with the indigenous local group Kari Kari, participating in a tribal ceremony, visiting an amazing self-sustainable school called Toki (this episode), and immersing in the culture like it was their own. Here is this episode’s breakdown: 0:00 Intro 1:05 Introducing Enrique and Mahani 2:57 Mario Toki explains Toki 4:37 Visiting Toki: self-sustainable school made from plastic bottles 6:56 Introducing Robertson College 8:00 About Easter Island people and problems 8:42 Easter Island stone heads anatomy & mystery 12:46 Concert Mahani, Enrique, and the Chilean National Symphony Orchestra You can also watch the episodes leading to this one: Episode 1 (pilot, when we threw the dart): • EASTER ISLAND (Part 1) | How Travel by Dar... On Easter Island, nestled among volcanic rock and ancient moai, stands the Toki school — an awe-inspiring Earthship school that redefines what education and architecture can be. This school made of garbage uses recycled materials like bottles, tires, and cans to create an eco building rooted in sustainable architecture and earthship design principles. More than just a music school on Easter Island, Toki is a beacon of Rapa Nui culture, combining traditional knowledge with modern solutions. As part of the Travel by Dart travel series, this episode dives into the island’s bold vision for the future — making it a must-see for fans of documentary travel shows, sustainable travel, environmental travel, and innovative Easter Island education. Whether you're curious about earthship architecture or passionate about recycled school buildings, this story will change the way you see what’s possible in one of the world’s most remote places. What is Travel by Dart? Travel by Dart is a new series that combines adventure travel, reality TV, and fun. In each episode, Sorin Mihailovici and his friend Matt Cook throw a dart at the world's map and travel wherever it lands, regardless of how far or difficult is it - even during the pandemic! Here is more: Long before any other YouTuber did it, Sorin threw a dart at the world map with his friend Matt and they went wherever it landed. It's been in 2011! They went to the North Pole (see link below). This below is the very first video of them doing it. For the last three years, Sorin has been doing it by himself, and what an adventure that's been. We will keep posting all the new videos here, so please subscribe. Here is our first ever dart throw (PLEASE EXCUSE the iPhone 3 filming hehe - it was 2011): • The FIRST YouTuber Who Threw a Dart at the... Here is what happened at the North Pole: • Видео You can check our other videos too. With no fancy television studios, production companies, or financial help, Sorin and Matt filmed their entire journey step-by-step from beginning to end, proving that traveling to every continent on the globe, living your wildest dreams, and getting past the challenges of the mundane work-life is entirely possible if you put your mind to it. "I am all about spontaneous living, seek discomfort, and dart-throwing has been a passion of mine (that's how I travel around the world) and we hope you will enjoy my travel blog" - Sorin.
