The average lifespan is estimated to be around 80-100 years old and they first evolved around 150 million years ago. Depending on the species of turtle, a female can lay anywhere between 50-200 eggs, with as many as 8 clutches per season. About 1 hatchling per 1000 survives to adulthood on average unfortunately, mainly due to multiple predators such as crabs, gulls, raccoons and sharks.
