Arsene Wenger has hailed the "special" relationship fans of English football have with their teams. The Arsenal manager reckons the world's favourite sport is ingrained into the very fabric of the nation's society. And Wenger - who has won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups in his 17 years with the Gunners - revealed that the passionate support prevalent in the English game kick-started his desire to work on these shores. Speaking ahead of The FA's 150th anniversary, Wenger told TheFA.com: "My first memories in football come from English cup finals and the special atmosphere you got even when it was black and white television. "The warm support that teams have here in England and the committed atmosphere was something special that came out of English football when I was a kid. "Maybe that was always printed in my head -- I always wanted to come to England. "The support in England is special because it's part of your identity. Every child here depends on his granddad or dad as to [which club] they will bring them first -- it's like a baptism. "You are from there and you will be from there forever. That's what I like, especially here in this country. "You don't have a choice in who you support -- it's your family who basically decide that." Wenger added: "Sometimes as well it brings excesses because sometimes people can hate each other because they are from different clubs. "But there's something I like which is genuine and the faithful attitude that people show to their club for the rest of their lives is absolutely fantastic. "For a manager, it adds pressure, because when you drive home on Saturday afternoon and you've lost a game you're conscious of what it means to people and how many people you have made unhappy and that's sometimes difficult to take." Meanwhile, Wenger revealed his favourite moment during his 17-year Gunners reign was the 4-0 victory over Everton at Highbury which wrapped up the 1998 league title. He said: "It was a typical English atmosphere. The idea I always had of English football was of people being very close, with a big soul in the stadium and for me to come to this country and be able to win the Premiership was something very special that will remain with me forever." But Wenger admitted his biggest regret remains Arsenal's 2-1 Champions League final defeat at the hands of Pep Guardiola's Barcelona side in 2006. Wenger added: "What hurts you as a manager -- particularly in the Champions League final against Barcelona -- is that you have the feeling the team performed well and then the result is not exactly what you expected. "But deep down inside, you know that can happen against you in the game. The guilt happens when you feel your team has not performed at the level they should have. "That's when you turn inside yourself and think 'I didn't manage to get the best out of my team.' That's when every manager feels miserable and you blame yourself, of course.
