Complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAIs) are an important cause of morbidity and mortality, particularly if poorly managed. Abdominal sepsis represents the host’s systemic inflammatory response to intra-abdominal infections. I have created this video at the request of various students in critical care medicine, emergency medicine, and anesthesiology, in which I have tried to cover various aspects of classification of IAI, types of peritonitis, etiology, and risk factors, pathophysiology and management of cIAI in a stepwise manner.
