BobBlast #262 "Backgound Color?" Welcome back to another BobBlast! A question that I often hear... "What color should I paint the background?" Often, you are asking as though your painting is a coloring book - after one part of the painting is finished, you then ask - what color should the background be? When I have questions like the one above, I go back to my art school days, where we learned by practicing painting color next to color - all at the same time. Not background then foreground, or visa versa. Painters tend to refer to colors as cool or warm - such as warm colors being red, orange, yellow - cool colors as blue, green, purple. Warm colors tend to come forward, while cool colors appear to recede. In this video - I demonstrate with cool backgrounds and warm backgrounds. Along with cool foregrounds and warm foregrounds. The "secret" is... Don't think background or foreground - Think entire surface... all over. Within the first few minutes into your painting, you should have paint all over the entire surface - all at the same time. At this point, it's color next to color... background and foreground - all at the same time. Painting... It's an action word!
