DBSA NCA Presents NIH Clinical Fellow Dr. Adam Fijtman speaking on Trouble Thinking in Bipolar Disorder: Research and Treatment Cognitive impairment, or difficulty in thinking, is a significant yet often overlooked aspect of bipolar disorder, contributing to functional disability and reduced quality of life. This talk will provide a comprehensive overview of the cognitive domains affected in bipolar disorder, the neurobiological correlates of these impairments, and the latest research on pharmacological and psychosocial interventions aimed at improving cognitive performance. We will discuss practical strategies for clinicians and individuals with bipolar disorder to manage cognitive challenges and promote cognitive resilience. Dr. Adam Fijtman received his medical degree and Ph.D. in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. He transferred from Duke University School of Medicine Psychiatry Residency to NIMH in 2022. He is currently a PGY6 Clinical Fellow working with Dr. Carlos Zarate in the Experimental Therapeutics and Pathophysiology Branch.
