Parke's Castle is a plantation-era castle situated on the northeast shore of Lough Gill in the north of County Leitrim in the northern part of Connacht, the western province in Ireland. The castle is built on the site of an earlier fifteenth-century O'Rourke tower house. The building came into the possession of Robert Parke in late 1628. By 1635, Parke had completed his fortified manor house on the site of the older Gaelic castle. The Parke family had died out by the late 1670s, and the manor house was last lived in around 1700. The building quickly became a ruin and remained uninhabited for over 300 years. Lough Gill is a freshwater lough mainly situated in County Sligo, but partly in County Leitrim, in Ireland. Lough Gill is about 8 km or 5 miles long and 2 km or 1 mile wide. The Lough Gill system consists of the river Bonet that flows into the eastern end of the lake and the River Garavogue which drains the lake to the west near Sligo Town. The picturesque lake is surrounded by woodlands, such as Slish Wood, Dooney Rock, and Hazelwood all of which contain popular nature trails and viewing points along the lake.
