Judo legend Sensei Hayward Nishioka sharing some thoughts after teaching the USJF Instructor Certification Course. More than a great athlete, Nishioka Sensei is also a Master Teacher and prolific author who volunteers his time to help other Judo coaches improve their ability to share the Martial Way. This will be very controversial for folks who like to think that Lee was always better than everyone at everything. Just please understand that these are words from a man who loved Bruce Lee as a friend, teacher, and training partner when both were young and when Nishioka Sensei was a tier one Judoka. Professor Wally Jay, Gene LeBell, and Hayward Nishioka were all experts in a realm that Bruce was still learning, growing, and progressing in with their help at the time that they knew him. No one is born at master level in anything, we all glean from each other as we learn and share the martial way. The key concept, as Nishioka Sensei says at the end, is to find that way.
