Join me on this early morning walk in Fairford - a picturesque English village located in Gloucestershire, England, with a rich history dating back to medieval times. Early History: Fairford is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as "Ferdred," a settlement under the control of the Abbey of Westminster. It was a relatively small village during this period, with farming as the main source of livelihood. St. Mary's Church: One of the most notable landmarks in Fairford is the Church of St. Mary, which dates back to the 15th century. It is famous for its stunning stained glass windows, which are among the finest in England. These windows, which date from the late medieval period, are considered a significant part of the village’s heritage. Tudor and Stuart Period: In the Tudor period, Fairford grew in importance, with the development of farming and trade. The village became known for its leatherworking industry. The nearby town of Cirencester also influenced Fairford's development. 18th and 19th Century Development: By the 18th century, Fairford began to see more substantial growth with the development of new buildings and infrastructure. During the Victorian era, the arrival of the railway boosted the village’s economy and made it more accessible to the wider world.
