WEED-IT continues to refine its precision spraying technology with updates to its user interface and mapping capabilities. The updates were highlighted at Ag in Motion, where Thijs Van Harten of WEED-IT shared what’s new for Canadian growers using the spot-spray system. A major update is the new dash display, which features a streamlined interface and enhanced sensor control. The upgrade is designed to improve usability and allow the system to “collect more data and future-proof the system,” says Van Harten. The console now includes diagnostics and the ability to create high-resolution biomass maps during in-crop applications — enabling better understanding of crop variability and weed pressure. The WEED-IT system, originally developed in the Netherlands in 1999, uses red, blue, and infrared light to detect chlorophyll and target weeds. Canadian growers have access to a dual-function setup: a green-on-brown system for burnoff and chem-fallow, and a green-on-green system for in-crop applications. Van Harten notes that WEED-IT’s biomass mapping captures “a data point every 25 centimetres... we’re using that data to build the map right there in the console.” These tools support both spray efficiency and future agronomic planning.
