John Bowlby was a British psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, born in 1907 and died in 1990. He studied at the University of Cambridge, where he also practiced psychiatry and psychoanalysis. Bowlby is one of the object relations theorists. In the 1950s, Bowlby became dissatisfied with object relations theory. According to him, the motivation theory underlying object relations seemed inadequate. In addition, there was a lack of empirical evidence to support many of the claims of Melanie Klein and other object relations pioneers. Bowlby therefore came to the conclusion that the theory needed to be integrated with an evolutionary perspective. By bringing the evolutionary perspective to object relations theory, Bowlby corrected the lack of empirical evidence and extended the theory in other directions, resulting in his attachment theory. ------------------------------------------- Suggested works: “Theories of Personality”, 9th ed., by Duane P.
