Welcome to our family adventures! Today, I’m taking you along on our super fun weekend family trip from Tainan to Pingtung — and trust me, the kids (especially little Rehan) had the time of their lives! We kicked off bright and early at 9:30 AM, piling into the car with snacks, sunscreen, and lots of excitement. After a smooth drive south, we pulled into Dapeng Bay in Pingtung right around 11:00 AM. Perfect timing! Our first stop? A thrilling boat ride across the calm, beautiful lagoon! The ride lasted about half an hour, gliding past sparkling water, lush mangroves, and some really cool historical sites along the shore. The views were straight out of a postcard — endless ocean, blue skies, and that fresh sea breeze. Rehan and the other kids were giggling the whole time, pointing at birds and boats. Absolute magic! After the ride, we were starving, so we headed straight to a cozy local seafood restaurant right nearby. Fresh catch of the day — grilled oysters, shrimp, squid, you name it. So delicious, and the kids actually tried everything! Nothing beats eating by the water with your family. Full and happy, we decided to keep the adventure going and drive over to Chijin Island (also called Cijin) in Kaohsiung. And here’s where it got really exciting — we drove straight through the famous Cross-Harbor Tunnel! This is Taiwan’s only underwater traffic tunnel, about 1.67 kilometers long, connecting the mainland to the island. Built back in the early 1980s, it dives right under the harbor, so you’re literally driving beneath the sea with huge ships passing overhead. The kids thought it was like going into a secret underwater world — so cool and a little mysterious! Definitely one of those ‘wow’ moments. Once we emerged on Chijin Island, it was beach time! We spent the afternoon playing in the sand, splashing in the waves, and just soaking up the sunshine. The kids built epic sandcastles, and we parents relaxed, letting the ocean waves wash over our feet. Pure bliss. As the afternoon turned to evening, the real show began. We watched the sunset over the water… and oh my goodness, it turned the whole sky this magical, glowing orange. The colors were unreal! And those strong waves? They rolled in with this deep, rhythmic sound — like nature’s own calming music. Heart-soothing, peaceful… one of those moments you just want to freeze forever. We wrapped up the day with a yummy dinner on the island — more fresh seafood, of course — then hopped back in the car for the drive home to Tainan. Tired, sandy, and super happy. Family trips like this are what memories are made of. From boat rides and secret tunnels to beach play and epic sunsets — Taiwan never disappoints!
