s05e61 This is part two of installing the SCX-20 on my boat. The installation itself is quite straightforward in theory, but when is that the case in the real world. The biggest issue was running the cable up to it which required me to cut and splice the NMEA 2000 cable. Not my favourite job in the world but given a little planning and patience it went very smoothly. This is arguably the heart and soul of the new system. For those that do not know, this is a satellite compass/GPS antenna. It has 4 GPS antennas, one in each corner of the dome. This gives it a precision that is not possible with other units. Not only does it give the boats heading (yaw), but it also registers pitch, roll and heave with extreme precision. What does all this mean? It means that the sounder can remove all surface movement from the sea floor. No longer will I see rises on the bottom which are in reality caused by the boats motion over the waves.
