Here is a record from the 1890s by Jere Mahoney. The song, "The Old Red Shawl My Mother Wore", was also later covered by Vernon Dalhart. This recording comes from the UCSB Cylinder Audio Archive, where it is listed as an unidentified song. There was no information about what company made this on the UCSB website. Jere Mahoney made many records for many different companies from the mid-1890s until around 1903, so it is difficult to narrow it down. it is likely before 1900 judging from the audio quality and that it is on a cylinder (he seems to have mostly made disc records past 1900). If anyone has more information on this record, that would be great. Here are the lyrics: It now lies on the shelf, It is faded and torn, That dear old shawl my mother wore. It is all that is left for this heart to adore, To bring to mind those happy days of yore. How often the hands to these folds have been press'd That now beneath the daisy's are at rest, The tears come unbidden and silently fall To gleam like gems on mother's old red shawl. It is faded and torn, still I fondly adore That dear old shawl my mother wore. And through life it will be such a treasure to me That little old red shawl my mother wore.
