When Jeanneline and Zaza pay a visit, Gwizdo suggests that the tavernkeeper stay on to manage the tavern in return for a salary and a cut of the profits. Jeanneline is won over by the idea and accepts. Life resumes its peaceful and wealthy course. Lian-Chu though is bored out of his mind and decides to pick up his adventurer lifestyle. He also discovers that Gwizdo attracted the dragon to the city for financial gain, a method that he condemns and that only makes him more resolved to leave. Gwizdo blinded by success, lets Lian-Chu and Hector leave. Soon however the little man falls into the clutches of a con artist who encourages him to invest in a mansion. Gwizdo pours most of his fortune into the mansion, but, hey! No sweat, he’s filthy rich. A visiting tax inspector also comes to the same conclusion. Gwizdo is suddenly on the ropes. Things could not get much worse but they do. The egg Gwizdo hid starts to hatch. The ire of the captured dragon is stirred.
