SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) Ali Osman Mohammed Taha, Sudanese Vice President: "We are working now to rally diplomatic and political support to try to suspend action on a prosecutor's request (for a warrant to arrest Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir). The arrest warrant will have serious consequences on the security issue and stability not only in Sudan but also in the whole region and naturally this will also affect the presence of the United Nations and relations with Sudan." 6. Wide of news conference STORYLINE: Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak met with Sudanese Vice President, Ali Osman Mohammed Taha on Sunday, during which it's thought the recent International Criminal Court (ICC) genocide charges against Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir were discussed. The ICC prosecutor, Luis Moreno-Ocampo filed genocide charges against al-Bashir on July 14, accusing him of masterminding attempts to wipe out African tribes in Darfur with a campaign of murder, rape and deportation. Speaking to reporters after meeting Mubarak, Taha said Sudan was working to "rally diplomatic and political support to try to suspend action." "The arrest warrant will have serious consequences on the security issue and stability not only in Sudan but also in the whole region and naturally this will also affect the presence of the United Nations and relations with Sudan," he added. It is likely to be months before a panel of judges at the ICC in The Hague, Netherlands, rules on the request. The UN Security Council asked in March 2005 for Moreno-Ocampo to investigate crimes in Darfur. Up to 300-thousand people have died and more than 2.5 (m) million have been displaced since the conflict began there in early 2003.
