Here is a short video with a few images that show exact before and after views! Dixie was opened on August 31st 1966 and was very popular until the late 70`s. On November 1978 the mall fully closed. Walgreens and Jewel remained open for a short while after it closed. The mall was then used as a school in 1979. After the school left a film called, The Blues Brothers, was filmed here, which caused severe damage to the mall (Some of which can still be seen in recent pictures!). Later, someone removed the dome above the atrium, which later caused Snow and Rain to enter freely, which is what was the final nail in the coffin, as this was the main reason the mall decayed so horribly and looks like it did in recent photos. As of May 17 2012, the entire mall is now gone after it was demo`d. The area is seeking use, and a recent rumor says Harvey may rebuild dixie square. (Via ABC news, archived)
