Each band or artist chooses a famous band or artist to become for one night only. Essentially, GCUP is a weekend filled with tribute acts, all performing mini-sets of approximately 20-25 minutes. Past highlights you ask? Whoa... far far too many have blown everyone's minds over the many years to do adequate justice here. But to give newcomers a quick taste... last year Modern Drugs morphed into Pat Benatar, Haki n'Dem transformed into Stevie Wonder, and the Hogchute Collective became Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds (to name just a few). In addition to the smorgasbord of bands, GCUP has had many wonderful hosts over this long stretch of time as well... Blind Pig Co., Mabel’s, Highdive, Cowboy Monkey, The Accord, Canopy Club, and The City Center. The event is now firmly entrenched on the warm and wonderful indoor stage at the Rose Bowl Tavern in downtown Urbana.
