The rights to the series were bought by Netflix, but after pressure from the Turkish regime, the platform announced that the series will only be available in its Greek version. 2. The Tragic Events: On August 14, 1974, time stood still in Famagusta as the city bore witness to the Assumption of the Virgin, mourning the loss of more than 3,000 Greek Cypriots. The once-thriving city, a flourishing tourist destination in the Mediterranean, transformed into an eerie ghost town. During the second phase of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, coded "Atilla II", on 14 August 1974, Famagusta was bombed by Turkish aircraft. It took two days for the Turkish Army to occupy the city, before which Famagusta’s entire Greek Cypriot population had fled into surrounding fields. Turkish forces occupied 36.2% of the island, displacing 120,000 Cypriots and leaving another 20,000 stranded. Numerous Greeks were taken hostages, executed in cold blood, and then buried in mass graves. 3. In 2021, the Security Council of the United Nations (UN) issued a strong statement against Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot regime regarding the announcements about Varosha in Cyprus. As of today, Turkey continues the occupation of half the island of Cyprus, which has been colonized by bringing settlers from the depths of Turkey. 4. Acclaimed Greek actor Grigoris Valtinos will appear as Makarios III (1913-1977), the tragic and yet inspiring Greek Cypriot archbishop and statesman, who was President of Cyprus at the time of the Turkish Invasion. 5.
