On this artic-level expedition, we headed into the woods for an overnight winter hammock camping trip in DEADLY cold conditions. With a -30°F windchill, air temps stuck in the single digits, and over a foot of snow on the ground, this was the coldest trip I've ever taken. Snowshoes on, packs loaded, the three of us broke trail through deep snow to reach camp. Once set up, we focused on the essentials—staying warm, processing firewood, and keeping morale high. Lunch was simple but perfect for the conditions: hot tomato soup and grilled cheese, followed by roasted brats over the fire for dinner while sharing stories of past adventures. This trip was all about cold-weather systems, teamwork, and comfort in extreme conditions—from winter hammocks and insulation choices to fire management and food that actually works in brutal cold.
