If you enjoyed the wing foiling video you can show your support here. www.Ko-fi.com/rygo12 Thanks to Sam Medysky & Jack Reider When I first got into foiling, the common advice was the board doesn’t matter because you are up on foil. That is actually not the case. I learned very quickly that the board matters a lot. The biggest considerations are Your ability Your conditions Your weight The shape and Volume of the board Beginners As a beginner, it's better to use high volume wing foil board to keep things easy. Having a board that you can balance on and float is important. Especially if you have to learn somewhere with choppy water. It's better to make things easier on yourself and switch to a smaller board when you are ready, however long that takes. The big boards are not as responsive but they make the difference between learning at a reasonable pace and will save you a lot of frustration. Intermediate If you are an intermediate wingsurfer, you either know what you like or you are crossing over from your first beginner wing board. If you’re crossing over, you can use these general guidelines. Conditions come into play here too. If you live somewhere with consistently strong wind. You can shave 10 Liters off from the recommended Range 15 if you are a heavier rider. For example someone who is 130 pounds might opt for a 50L instead of a 60L while someone whose 220 LBS might shave almost 20 Liters going from a 100L to a 80L. Advanced Advanced riders are going to know exactly what they want and I doubt they are watching so I won’t touch on that. That said, If you are advanced, I would love to hear your feedback. Help a beginner out and share your knowledge about choosing a wingfoil board in the comments! Board shape and dimensions Volume can be dispersed in a number of ways. Width, length and the general shape of the board all make a difference. Width Like any board sport, wider boards tend to be stable and plane easy. Narrow boards are focused on performance and respond faster. Making for harder turns and faster rail to rail transitions. Length Longer boards tend to be forgiving and plane easier while shorter boards provide more agile turns and pump well thanks to the reduced swing weight. Features Different wing boards come with different features. Most commonly these are used to help with easy lift off, sometimes they help with softening up touchdowns or it might be as subtle as a concave or markings on the deck .
