Cornea transplant - how a cornea donation gave Bharat the gift of sight | UHL NHS Trust

Bharat tells us about how a cornea transplant transformed his sight and life. He had been diagnosed with keratoconus, a condition which causes the cornea to bulge into a cone shape and makes it harder to see. In this video, we go behind the scenes of Bharat’s transplant and see what happens during surgery. We also meet Stephanie Tiew, a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, who carried out the procedure. The improvement to Bharat’s vision was almost immediate after the transplant, as he was able to see the outline of people’s faces. It was all thanks to a generous person who donated their corneas.
