Gang, here is my latest 3D ski binding video the Marker M3 Binding System. From around 1975 this is another example of how far from the Simplex/Rotomat Marker’s engineers had moved. The toe has a long anti-shock movement with individual wings and ski boot toe retainers that reduce friction during release or shock absorption. As I took apart the heel to model the individual parts I was shocked at the complexity. It’s like Marker hired engineers from a Swiss watch maker. When you get to that part of the video I broke the heel into three different exploded views to keep it easier to follow. A great suggestion I got was to show the release cycle or motion the binding goes through. That was a bit of a new challenge for me, I usually didn’t worry about that type of animation because engineers usually want “the facts”. This isn’t Industrial Lights and Magic level of animation by any stretch of the imagination but I hope it shows the release cycle OK. Oh one part I’m proud of is if you watch the heel unit going through its release cycle the spring compresses and relaxes with the movement of the heel cup. Enjoy…and again I do appreciate comments and will try to integrate them as I do more systems…
