Request for extension 2/11/2025 Fighting for Justice | Federal Court Filing & Exposing Whatcom County Corruption In this episode of Illuminating Whatcom, we document two critical aspects of Adrian’s ongoing legal battle: 1. Filing for an Extension in U.S. District Court We record the submission of Adrian’s legal filing to the U.S. District Court, Western Washington Division (Case No. 2:24-cv-02049-RSM-TLF). Due to systemic barriers in Whatcom County Jail—including the lack of metered postage, legal mail tracking, and proper access to court records—we are ensuring the request for an extension is properly documented. This filing is a crucial step in Adrian’s federal civil rights case under 42 U.S.C. §§ 1983, 1985, and 1986, which challenges the unconstitutional treatment he has endured. 2. Exposing the Injustice in Whatcom County Superior Court While Adrian fights to be heard in federal court, Whatcom County continues to violate his constitutional rights. Judge Evan Jones and STATE FUNDED “Defense Counsel” Jason Weiss have worked together to keep Adrian in pre-trial detention, deny him access to his case records, and completely ignore procedural due process. • January 14, 2025 – The US District court filed an #Order to Show Cause for Adrian’s federal case, but he was never given the records needed to respond. • January 15, 2025 – Adrian was forced to represent himself (pro se) in #WhatcomSuperiorCourt without a proper hearing or legal resources, just one day after the federal order was filed. • November 7, 2024 – #JasonWeiss, who has been paid $300 an hour to do nothing, was discharged in open court, yet he continued to appear as Adrian’s attorney and obstruct his case. • December 5, 2024 – Weiss filed a motion to dismiss with prejudice, but we later discovered it was actually written by another pre-trial detainee, #RichardKirkham. Weiss simply put his name on it, filled in the blanks and submitted the same motion in another defendant’s case. • January 15, 2025 – Judge #EvanJones delayed ruling on the motion to dismiss (12/5/24) for over a month before dismissing it—without providing Adrian access to the written decision. Pre-trial detainees do not get access to their case records or court schedules, keeping them completely in the dark. • February 10, 2025 – Adrian had a jury trial hearing scheduled. Abby arrived at court, only to find out two hours later - it had been stricken without notice. This has become a pattern—publicly posted hearings are canceled, while Adrian is given off-the-record surprise hearings- to prevent oversight and public accountability? The Bigger Picture: A Rigged System Adrian’s case is a clear example of a broken justice system.
