The San Diego Gulls fell 5-3 to the Toronto Marlies on Wednesday night at Pechanga Arena despite a strong special teams effort. Toronto opened the scoring in the first period through Alex Steeves, while the Gulls failed to convert on multiple power plays. San Diego responded in the second when Sasha Pastujov scored on the man advantage, but Toronto regained the lead with a power-play goal from Zach Solow. Justin Bailey tied it 2-2 late in the period, also on the power play. The Marlies took control in the third, with Solow scoring again and Cédric Paré netting the game-winner. Rodwin Dionicio gave the Gulls hope with a power-play goal, but Kyle Clifford sealed it with an empty-netter. The Gulls capitalized on three of five power-play opportunities, while Toronto converted one of two. The game was physical, featuring a fight between Jan Myšák and Paré, plus a game misconduct to Dionicio at the buzzer. Solow earned first-star honors, while Bailey and Pastujov contributed goals. The Gulls aim to bounce back as their homestand continues with more exciting promotions ahead.
