The Hymettus Ridge, one of the few true trad lines near Athens. We were a team of two, carrying a 60-meter rope, a set of nuts, and a light alpine rack. The route follows the central ridge of Mount Hymettus, with climbing sections graded around UIAA III to IV. It’s mostly solid limestone, with occasional loose rock and plenty of natural protection placements. The climb combines scrambling, short vertical sections, and exposed traverses, making it a great half-day alpine outing close to the city. The ridge offers consistent movement, route-finding challenges, and commanding views over Athens and the Saronic Gulf.
