Do you like history? Then you might like this series I have created called "Rome -- A History in Images." I live in Rome (what an honor!) and have explored ruins, churches, and so much more. And now I have taken what I have learned and made this video series. It is a city of startling contradictions. A city of war, a city of peace. A city of earthly pleasures, a city of spiritual illumination. A city of great buildings and old ruins. A city of humble farms, republics, kingdoms, and Empires. In a city of endless exploration, this collection of photos and videos, taken by me, barely scratches the surface. Nevertheless, it is an honest attempt to capture the amazing history of an amazing city. I would like to share these images with you. This is Rome: A History in Images. Covered in this episode -- the first beginnings of Rome, including pre-history and the legend of Romulus and Remus. Then we explore the Etruscan Empire and the Kings of Rome. The last king of Rome is a controversial figure and is ousted. A Roman Republic is formed. The city of Rome expands. Bridges are built, buildings are constructed, the population grows. The Circus Maximus, the largest athletic venue in the ancient world, can hold anywhere from 170,000 to 200,000 people and hosts exciting chariot races. Meanwhile, the Republic expands and the First Triumverate takes even more land. Julius Caesar emerges as the winner of a brutal civil war and becomes dictator for life. However, sixty senators conspire together to have the new dictator killed. Caesar is assassinated in March of 44 B.C. The Second Triumverate is formed and Caesar's adoptive son Octavian emerges as the First Citizen. Octavian takes the name of Caesar Augustus. Augustus becomes the first Roman Emperor and the Roman Republic becomes the Roman Empire. Here is a list of places that are visited in this episode: Capitoline Museum Palatine Hill and Museum Etruscan National Museum Servian Wall (at the Termini Train Station) Appian Way Temple of Hercules Victor Temple of Portunus Vatican Museums Area Sacra di S.
