Removing kidney stones can be fun and safe! Really blessed to use the new LithoVue Elite digital Ureteroscope from Boston Scientific. It’s a unique Ureteroscope that allows the surgeon to monitor Intra-renal pressures during stone surgery. This allows us to make sure that we minimize the risk of infection and sepsis by keeping our irrigation pressures low. Seems like a simple concept, but it really helps to better our patient outcomes. This video illustrates how we first access the renal system and then use a holmium laser fragment a few stones in the collecting system. While we are performing the fragmentation, the surgeon gets to see realtime pressures in the kidney collecting system to make sure that the ureteral access sheath is correctly positioned in the renal pelvis. This allows for lower Intrarenal pressures and also means that the stone debris are being cleared through the sheath and out of the patient. It’s like driving a car and watching your speed - that feedback helps you drive better.
