I tried to save a pair of trousers I already owned by altering them instead of replacing them - and what I thought would be a simple upcycling job turned into a 10-hour learning curve 😅 In this video, I share an honest behind-the-scenes look at altering and extending trousers using reclaimed fabric, as part of my journey building a sustainable upcycling and alterations service in the UK. This was an experiment on my own clothes to understand the process properly before ever offering it to someone else. The trousers were too small, so I added fabric panels at the sides using a warm, autumnal floral fabric. Along the way, plenty went wrong - from adding too much fabric to reworking sections I thought were finished - and at several points it felt like the trousers might be a total loss. But by slowing down and reassessing, I managed to save them and learned a huge amount in the process 🍂 I talk openly about why alterations aren’t always quick or simple, what this taught me about fit and balance, and how choosing to alter what you already own can be a meaningful alternative to buying new. If you’re interested in sustainable fashion, upcycling, and getting more life out of your wardrobe, this video is for you. Make yourself a cup of tea and settle in ☕️ If you’re trying to shop less, waste less, and care more for the clothes you already have, I’m really glad you’re here 🌿 💚 Want help refreshing your wardrobe sustainably? Resewn Textiles was born from a love of clothes and a frustration with waste and its environmental impact. I started to feel uncomfortable with how disposable fashion had become so I decided to do something about it — to take what already exists and turn it into something new. I believe every piece of fabric tells a story, and with a little creativity, those stories can be rewritten. Through my videos, I share my journey building an eco-friendly small business, my upcycling process, and the beauty of slow, mindful making. Every piece I make is created using reclaimed fabrics, rescued materials, and a huge amount of care. My goal is to help others rediscover the beauty of what they already own. If you’ve ever wanted to reconnect with your wardrobe or live more sustainably, you’re in the right place.
