In this video, I take a detailed look at the Spyderco Starmate 20CV Sprint Run, designed by Bob Terzuola and released to celebrate Spyderco’s 50th anniversary. We go over the overall design, blade geometry, materials, and ergonomics, with a closer look at the liner lock construction and lock engagement. I also examine the blade edge under the microscope to evaluate grind quality and edge finish. The Starmate is a large tactical folder with CPM 20CV steel, a hollow grind, and a spine that tapers toward the tip, clearly optimized for penetration. While I’m generally not a big fan of liner locks, this design choice makes sense given the knife’s ATCF heritage and Terzuola’s design language. Topics covered in this video: – Blade steel and grind geometry – Locking mechanism and liner lock details – Microscopic inspection of the edge – Ergonomics, jimping, and handle design – Measurements and carry options This review focuses on construction, engineering choices, and real-world design considerations rather than hype.
