How Knuckles has a carnival on his island, I'll never know. Maybe it was Eggman's doing? And for some reason, Act 2 is flooded. Luckily, there are some underwater balloons you can pop open there for air bubbles. -------------- There should be 6 Special Stage rings in Act 1. One of them should be part of a Tails route, another is exclusive to Knuckles' route, and there should be one I missed that's hidden within a similar yet different location that also has those twirling, grabbable towers like the 3 I encountered in this video. Act 2 should have a grand total of 4 rings. I'm sure I missed one of them before traveling through the "Lights Out" part of the level. It's because of that part of Act 2 that makes it one of the longest levels in this game. -------------- The most infamous thing about this level that we all probably know of is a red & white barrel that appears near the end of Act 2, dubbed the "Barrel of Doom". I was one of the many, many poor players that took forever to figure out how to bypass it. It's probably part of the reason why some prefer Sonic 2 over the entirety of this game. Then I learned that it was actually easier to find out than I thought. Just trace the movement of the barrel when you land on it. If it goes down, press Down. When it goes up, press Up. This will make the barrel rise higher and sink lower until you're able to bypass whatever path it's blocking you from. There's more than one barrel like this in the zone, but the one near Act 2's end is the only one you should really focus on getting under. -------------- Carnival Night's theme is one of the 3 main songs to get changed for this game's PC version, due to how similar the 3 songs are to Micheal Jackson's songs. Part of CN's song is based on MJ's "Jam". 11/17/2019 UPDATE: I have just learned from a recent beta of Sonic 3 that this Jam-inspired track for Carnival Night was a replacement. The music you hear in the original PC release was Carnival Night's original music all along!
