Some tips before starting! • Take some time to choose the pose of your hands! Try within an empty bucket to ensure not touching sides or bottom of the container. • Before going on with step 1 thoroughly wash your hands to prevent contamination of the material. • Pour the Alginate bag into the bucket, add 1800 ml of cold water (the colder the water, the longer the working time). - STEP 1 • Quickly mix the alginate with the water until the mixture is smooth and creamy (max 1 min). • Put your hand in the mixed alginate – make sure not to touch sides or bottom of the bucket. • Keep your hand still until the alginate sets to a rubbery texture (2-3 minutes). • Gently wiggle your fingers to introduce air inside the mold and slowly remove your hands (one hand at a time). • Pour some water inside the alginate mold and gently rotate the bucket to remove any small residuals. • Make sure no water remains inside the mold - STEP 2 PLASTER • Pour 300 ml of water in a container and then slowly add 1kg of plaster powder. • Mix the plaster and water until the mixture is creamy and smooth. • Fill the mold 25% with plaster and gently rotate the mold in all directions. • Pour your casting material into the mold and tap the sides of the container to minimize air bubbles. • Let the plaster set for 60 minutes. Meanwhile, clean the tools used in the process with water. - LAST STEPS ! • Once the plaster has set, turn the bucket upside down and take off the mold from the container. • Start removing the alginate, slowly and carefully : you can use a utility knife to cut and then peel the alginate. • Use a toothpick to remove alginate by the creases and a toothbrush to scrub any plaster bubbles. • Your sculpture will dry to a brilliant classic white finish: you can leave as it is or paint it as you like!
