In 1981, Lenny Breau cleared up legal problems that had barred him from returning to Canada for five years. This allowed him to play several gigs in Canada between 1981 and 1983. These included several gigs at the Toronto jazz club, Bourbon Street. His first booking at the club was a two week date that began in early April of 1981. Drummer Claude Ranger and bassist Don Thompson, who had recorded with Lenny on his Direct to Disc album in Nashville a few years earlier, were hired to play with Lenny. However, Lenny was not happy with Ranger's playing and fired him a few days into the gig. Lenny and Don Thompson played as a duo for a day or two before hiring drummer Terry Clarke who played the remainder of the gig. Lenny began his second sets playing solo on his seven string guitar. This recording features him playing a standard followed by a long, largely improvised piece with classical, flamenco and jazz components. The third tune is a beautiful original that Lenny had just composed. Unfortunately he does not name the piece on the recording. 1. The Nearness of You 2. Flamenco/Jazz/ Classical Fantasy 06:32 3.
