Congress has taken a tough stance on the newly announced India‑US trade deal, urging the government to lay out full details in Parliament and take the country into confidence. The demand comes after US President Donald Trump publicly outlined key aspects of the pact, prompting the opposition to say that Indians have a right to know exactly what was agreed. Congress fired four major questions at the government, seeking clarity on tariff and market access changes, the impact on Indian farmers and industries, any commitments on opening India’s agricultural sector to US products, and whether India has formally agreed to halt purchases of Russian oil in favour of US and Venezuelan supplies. The party also raised concerns about reports that India may agree to purchase up to USD 500 billion worth of American energy, technology, agricultural and other products, and questioned how this squares with the Make in India initiative and India’s strategic autonomy. Senior Congress leaders warned that critical policy decisions appear to be being announced by the US side first, questioning whether this undermines national decision‑making and sovereignty. They say the full text of the deal should be tabled in Parliament, debated, and explained to the people so that farmers, traders, industry and citizens understand the true impact of the pact beyond Washington’s statements. With no comprehensive official statement issued yet by the Indian government, the opposition insists transparency is essential and that India’s core interests must be safeguarded in any bilateral agreement. #ustrade #indiaus #indiaustradedeal #ustariff #donaldtrump #narendramodi #pmmodi #moditrump #trumpmodi #congress #manishtewari #kartichidambaram #parliament #russianoil #russia #tradewar #indiandiplomacy #indiaforeignpolicy #tariffwar #india #toi #toibharat #bharat #trending #breakingnews #indianews —————————————————————————————————————————— TOI Bharat – Your Window to India And Its Neighbourhood TOI Bharat delivers the latest news, biggest voices, sharpest views and in-depth coverage of India’s political, social and economic landscape.
