Adopté en 1915 par le sultan Moulay Youssef Ben Hassan, le drapeau officiel du Maroc est celui que nous voyons à l’écran. Mais quelle est l’origine et la signification de ce même drapeau ? Ce dernier est constitué d’un champ rouge au milieu duquel se trouve une étoile verte à 5 points. La couleur rouge est associée aux descendants du Prophète Muhammad, paix et bénédictions soient sur lui. Cette même couleur représente également le courage, audace, force, ténacité et le sang versé par le peuple pour sa religion.Le drapeau marocain entre 1666 et 1915 était principalement rouge.C’était l’emblème historique de la dynastie alaouite au pouvoir depuis le XVIIe siècle.Dans certaines versions, cependant, et jusqu’en 1915, le drapeau pouvait être vu orné d’une étoile à 6 branches, également appelée le Saut de Salomon. Le 30 mars 1912, le Maroc est devenu un protectorat français. Nommé commissaire résident général de ce nouveau territoire. Presque 2 ans et demi plus tard, Hubert Lyautey a modifié le drapeau en ajoutant une étoile verte à 5 pointes. Cette dernière représente également le sceau de Salomon ou Pentagramme, qui dans la tradition musulmane est associé au prophète Salomon, connu pour sa sagesse, son contrôle des djinns et des éléments naturels. Un arrêté royal appelé Dahir au Maroc avait été signé par Moulay Youssef Ben Hassan le 17 novembre 1915. Ce document a permis de ratifier cette décision d’ajouter une étoile verte sous un fond rouge au centre du drapeau. Green Star, en plus de représenter le Pentagramme, symbolise également les 5 fondements de l’islam. Le vert est le symbole de l’espoir, de la joie, de la sagesse et de la paix. C’est aussi la couleur traditionnellement associée à la religion musulmane.
