ORIGINAL INFO: The battle for peace has begun… and actually ended several years ago. RUMINATIONS: Not much to say about this one, other than at the time of release, there was a lot of debate in the comments concerning the politics of the end of the cold war, whether or not the movie really was based on real world events, and all that minutiae. In the end, it doesn’t really matter – it’s just what the writers have said they based the material off of. As I said in the episode, I quite like Star Trek 6, though it’s far from perfect. Still, Kirk’s ending speech to transition us from the original series to the next generation is very well-written. It’s just a pity that the Next Generation movies, for the most part, didn’t live up to the good average set by the TOS films.
