This week I’m continuing a personal Sim ↔ IRL track season to see how well flying in Velocidrone translates to real life. I started by building Sandlot S1 Track 1 in the sim and even added a double cube! Then I directly compared my lap times between the sim and the real track in my yard using Trackside and RotorHazard. This time I ran my 5" race quad instead of the Pro Spec, and the results felt much closer to 1:1. My current takeaway is that Pro Spec in the sim is faster than real life, while 5" quads seem to translate more accurately between sim and reality. I also spent some time tuning this rig in PID Toolbox and experimenting with AM32 ESC settings to dial things in. One interesting finding was that AM32 auto advanced timing performed better than using a high static timing value (greater than 24), although I have not tested lower timing values yet. The documentation on the wiki (kinda) helped, but I still feel like there is room for clearer explanations around some of these parameters. If anyone has deeper insight into how these settings work, I would appreciate the input. https://wiki.am32.ca/guides/ESC-Setti... Overall, I am pretty happy with how this experiment is shaping up so far, and I am excited to start working on Track 2.
