In his regular live Q&A sessions Michael answers questions and shares news about his work and all things classical. Why not join in via his Facebook page: www.facebook.com/profmichaelscott and send a question ... what will you #askprofmcscott? TOPICS COVERED THIS WEEK INCLUDE: ▪️ I've lost my voice… do we have any suggestions from the great orators of the classical period as to what I can do to get it back? I reserve the right to NOT try anything that harms a frog, etc. ▪️ Could you explain to us the Greek religion and if the mystery of Eulises is part of the Greek religion. ▪️ Did people worship a god popular in their particular region or the one they had a connection with? I assume most seafarers worshiped Poseidon. Farmers Demeter? Stone masons .... perhaps Athena? ▪️ What if one did not believe in Gods during that time? ▪️ Were there any financial crashes in the ancient world? As gold and silver coins were worth their weight, unlike today, did this mean financial crashes didn’t happen? Did they have inflation? ▪️ Why was jewellery always made as snakes? ▪️ Just started the marvellous Natalie Haynes Stone Blind Medusa's story ... just got me thinking - snakes in Ancient Greece? Scary ... a curse to give you a head full of snakes / Hera sends then to kill baby Hercules / Eurydice steps on one and ends up in Hades? Or Sacred... connected to Asclepius the healing god (were they used in the healing process?) / thought to predict earthquakes / the Minoan Snake goddess/priestess / appearing on both the staff of Hermes and Asclepius? Or just a bit of both?! What scares one person is protecting the other person? Also wondered if it has something to do with snakes, not really being like anything else... no legs, no wings, no fur, that tongue, and the whole skin shedding thing?!
