Welcome back to Lecture 4 of our Edexcel Maths Specification B (4MB1) series. Today, we are officially wrapping up the Number unit! As I always tell my students, O-level examiners aren't "loyal"—they love to mix concepts from different topics to challenge you. That is why mastering these conversions and accuracy rules is vital for your success. In this lecture, we dive into the practical applications of fractions, decimals, and percentages, and master the technical "Upper and Lower Bounds" that many students find tricky. We also cover Standard Form to help you handle massive numbers with ease. What you will learn in this lecture: The Conversion Concept: Moving between fractions, decimals, and percentages efficiently. Sharing Ratios: Using the "Total Ratio" method to share quantities (like the $80 split example). Degree of Accuracy: Mastering Decimal Places (d.p.) and Significant Figures (s.f.) by looking at the "next digit". Upper and Lower Bounds: How to calculate the range of original values after rounding, including the mandatory formulas for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Standard Form: Simplifying massive or tiny numbers into the A x 10^n format.
