This is it. This massive fight. This shoot-out between two tasty new decks at the $1k region. The most reputable deck at the $1k price with a long history of trusted winning sound, the P3 from Rega, meets its toughest competitor, the StudioDeck from MoFi!! I bought the P3 in Sept 2017, the SD in June 2018. **-*- Both decks are runned in and auditioned with the same Goldring 1006, Nagaoka MP-150 and MP-200 cartridges, with the brilliant Schiit Mani phonostage. ***-- Also, to make sure that the Rega P3 with its captive quality "Low Capacitance High Quality" shielded phono cable, doesn't have an unfair advantage over the StudioDeck using a stock run-of-the-mill phono cable, or on the reverse: that the StudioDeck doesn't profit unfairly from me fitting on a Shunyata Python or Zonotone 7NSP-Neo Grandio 07Hi phono cable, I have bought and purposely fitted on the same Rega quality "low capacitance high performance" phono cable onto the StudioDeck. Cost of Rega phono cable = $120. ***-- Both decks have their tonearm base height raised to ensure that all cartridges are aligned to Stylus Rake Angle range of 91.5-92degrees. Cost of Rega original spacers = $80. **-*- All cartridges aligned to the same Lofgren curve using the Dr Feickert NG Protractor. OUTCOME!!! :-D : It is a tie. Barring the deep bass performance, the StudioDeck matches the P3 in ALL sonic parameters. The StudioDeck showing much better manufacturing finesse.
