It’s Sunday evening around 5:15 PM, and many Belgians are still in the Netherlands doing their shopping at the Albert Heijn XL supermarket and other stores. The Action store is also seeing a lot of visitors from Belgium again. I’ll say it once more: Action in Hulst urgently needs a larger store — the current one is far too small. I continue through the city center, taking a look at the Grote Markt, the Bierkaai with the cinema, and then heading toward the Hulst bus station. The shared bikes are there as well, which is incredibly practical, especially for border towns. They also give you the freedom to travel longer distances — even reaching Sint-Niklaas or Antwerp by bike is possible. Afterwards, I cycle out of Hulst toward Vogelwaarde, about 10 km away. You really feel the advantage of the city being close to the border, while the surrounding villages are much farther apart, which can be challenging for people who have to travel that route daily.
