Nortons Theorem We can replace a complex circuit with a very simple circuit with two components i) Current source ii) Resistance both are connected in parallel. The current of current source is called Norton Current and resistance is called Norton's Resistance.The circuit is called Norton Equivalent circuit. To transform a complex circuit into Norton Equivalent circuit we have to calculate the Norton current and Norton resistance, and this is called Norton's Theorem Thevenin to Norton conversion. We can find the Norton Equivalent circuit with the help of Thevenin circuit. If we divide Thevenin voltage with Thevenin resistance we will get Norton's current, Thevenin's Resistance is equal to Norton's resistance. By using Norton's current and Norton resistance we can make Norton Equivalent Circuit. We can also find Norton current and Norton Resistance with the help of simple method. Norton Theorem i) To find the Norton's Resistance remove the load resistor and replace all the current or voltage sources with their internal resistance and then calculate the total resistance of the circuit through the terminals of removed load resistor. ii) To find the Norton's current short the load resistor and find the current through shorted wire. This current is called Norton's current. Norton's current can be calculated with the help of Superposition theorem, nodal analysis or some other method. Once you find the Norton's current and Norton's resistance connect them in parallel and connect the load resistance in parallel with Norton's resistance,and then find the current through load resistance.This is called Norton's Theorem.
