Cookhouse – A Village on the West Bank of the Great Fish River! Ep 190

After our fantastic trip through the Slagtersnek Pass we arrived in the village of Cookhouse. Situated on the West bank of the Great Fish River, the first thing we saw as we entered from the Slagtersnek Pass road was the train station. Our first impression was that the station was a major functional station in the area but later we found out that a train only passed through this station once, maybe twice, a year. The only church we saw needed some TLC as I think did the entire village. Our thoughts are that it seems that the farming community is what is keeping this town alive. On our way out of Cookhouse we stopped at the Thomas Pringle monument, as well as the Slagtersnek monument.
